My Home Construction
Projects Over The Years
1951 - 6 years Old
"Over
the Years one of my Hobbies since Childhood has
Been Building various structures...for Fun, not as a job!"
My earliest was a little Playhouse built against the back fence
in my parents backyard that bordered Parkers property.

It was built with materials scavenged from new houses still
being built in our development in the early 1950's.
It was
a about 3 ft wide by 8 ft long by 4 ft high,
complete with a Swinging wood door, Sliding Wood windows.
I had a nice waterproof roof with tarpaper and Shingles.
When
Friends of mine saw my little Playhouse, they asked
their fathers if they would help built ones for them.
Well it turned out to be an all out competition between
those two families, building larger and larger till one
was 12ft by 12ft and Two stories high in their backyard!
Well
with all the noise those Fathers and Sons made building
these monster size Playhouses Using Power saws and such.....
3 old ladies that lived down on the other side of the Biggest
one called the Building Department !!!
So
that was the End of the Playhouses including Mine !
They
made us tear Them down !
During the Same period of time, about a dozen of us boys in
the neighborhood had been busy building a massive Tree house in
a very old and large Mango tree, in an heavily wooded and
undeveloped part of the housing development. I mean LARGE..
there again being built with materials being scavenged from new
houses still being built in our development. We found Tables, chairs,
rugs and other household items that our families let us have.

Ours Looked a lot like
this one
It was a great fun
place!
All was fine for about 7
months till the contractors came with
bulldozers to level the area for new houses ! They stopped and
looked at this massive Tree house and thought that someone was
indeed living there. They suspected we had built it after a while
and when they caught a couple of us in it one day. They were nice
about it and let us remove the household items and other stuff
before they finished clearing the area....
Those were the Good Old
Days.
1955 - 10 Years Old
Well it was a few more
years before I got to work on a new
Building project. This time it was with a neighbor on our street
who was building a 12 by 20 Workshop, with a City permit, in his
Backyard. I could not get out of school fast enough to get home
to work with him. It turned out to be fine little workshop.
After 50 years that
Workshop Building is still there !
1961 - 16 Years Old
During my 10th Grade
High School years, A man starting
building a complete House on a vacant lot about a block away
from my house. Well, myself and good friend Pete, spent many
hours, days, helping him complete the house. We learned alot!
Fast Forward to 1975 - 30 Years Old
