This was one long Flight
within the US. Left Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Flew to
Chicago, IL, Layover, then
To Seattle, WA, Layover, then though a snowstorm
going over the Cascade Mountains to Yakima, WA Airport
15 hours - 3,150 miles
And it was Cold the days I was there, 15 at night, 30's during the day !
Red Lion Hotel and
Across the street, Where the System was in
the US Federal Building... Easy Commute during work days..
The Beautiful Columbia River was Behind the Hotel
Salmon Fishing Season Did not start till about 3 weeks after I Left
Back to Yakima Airport
and that Puddle Jumper airliner back across the
Cascade Mountains to Seattle, WA. I really did not like the ride in
it.

When I Came to Motorola
in 1978, They had a Cadds 1 Nova 1200 CAD System
similar to the one Bendix had. The Gold colored box towering above the
others
in the middle of the picture is it. From 1980 - 1985, I purchased 8
Computervision
Version Cadd2, 3 & 4 systems with an average of 5 Color Design workstations
each,
for about $1.25 million dollars each system. Our department was the first to
start
networking systems together and placed 3 workstations, 1000 ft away in the
new
CAM machine shop out in the factory area. By the Time I left Motorola in
1997,
We had Large Sun and HP Servers and Networked Cad/Cam/Cae Sun/HP
workstations on everyone's desk that needed them, throughout
the entire Plantation Motorola facility.
About Mid 1985
These 1980's Computer
Systems were Real heaters and we had to have
them and the 40 workstations in a raised floor Computer room area !
with about 60 tons of Air Conditioning running 24/7. I am glad I did not
have to pay the Florida Power & Light bill !

About 3 quarters of the roof done !
Finished by 3 PM and it was really warm by then !

It had a NOVA 1200 Computer, 32K mem, 14 mb disk, with
4 Digitizing/Plotter tables, and a PhotoPlotter.

1972 - Auto-Trol
Digitizing System, which then punched the Data type and
Co-ordinates to a Card Punch unit, that created Punch cards that were then
processed using using RCA Computer Systems and RCA developed PCB

In the Beginning there
were no Plotters... So we printed the
the completed designs to RCA Chain printers using characters
to represent the pad shapes and connecting circuit lands !
The First plotter we got
was a Calcomp Flatbed plotter !
This was major milestone when we could finally plot the designs.
